After the chemical peel, microderm abrasion, laser skin lightening I’m bringing you a Derma Pen procedure.
You might be asking yourself What is Derma Pen and what does Derma Pen do? To answer your question, a video.
So yes. The Derma pen is a pen-ish type object that has a tip full of micro needles. Those needles puncture your face or body much like a lawn aerator punctures tiny holes in your lawn. Really.
The procedure I had was on my face, but you can do them anywhere on your body that needs to have the texture smoothed out, including any stretch marks.
It works great for acne scarring or if you have any scars on your face. The needling wounds your face in a very minor way, just enough to get your body’s natural repair systems up and running. It makes your body bust out the natural collagen and elastin to repair the injury. It leaves your skin looking refreshed and younger.
I have a couple chicken pox scars on my face. Which is why I agreed to have this procedure done. As with anything that sounds slightly painful, I used this Dr. Numb cream before the procedure. 
They assured me that it wouldn’t be bad as long as I used the cream.
So 20 minutes before, I slathered myself in the cream. I probably used too much. This didn’t bother me (until later).
So she started. She turned on the battery operated pen thingy which sounded a lot like a good electric toothbrush.
I laid there curling my toes and gritting my teeth. So the truth is, it’s not comfortable. It really isn’t, but I wouldn’t call it painful either.
The worst part is on the forehead and any other bony parts of your face. It’s also especially uncomfortable around my nose. Not because it hurt but because it vibrated my nose and made me feel like sneezing.
It took her about 40 minutes to do the whole procedure across my whole face and by the time she was done, I was really ready for her to be done.
Then came the nummy part. And by nummy I mean NUMB. My face was SO NUMB. Remember how it feels after you’ve been to the dentist and part of your face or lip is still numb and it feels fat. That’s how my whole face felt.
Also, my face, my WHOLE face was throbbing. I could feel my pulse in my face. It was one of the strangest sensations I have ever felt.
My face was also bright red afterward. I was planning to go to Ross to grab a quick item afterward, but I looked too strange to be seen in public.
When I got home my kids were startled by how I looked. They asked me where I’d been. I told them I went to the place where they fix your face and my 8-year-old replied by saying my face did NOT look fixed. In fact looked WAY WORSE than when I left.
She was right, it did. It looked like I had been skiing all day while wearing swim goggles with no sunscreen. I opted not to photograph myself in my full redness glory. You’re welcome.
The good news. An hour after I got home, my face stopped throbbing. An hour after that, the redness started to fade. By evening when my husband got home, he couldn’t even tell anything had happened to me. I looked like this that evening (with no makeup). 
A day later I looked like this.
I am wearing makeup here, but it’s just a mineral powder. No redness or scaring. And now a week later, I look fantastic (as always).
They say you need a series of these treatments to get results, but my scarring was very minor so I was hopeful I wouldn’t need several treatments to see results.
Do I look noticeably different? I’m sure you’d say no, but I can see a difference. My skin just looks better. My little scars are still there but I think they look a little better. If I wanted them to vanish, I’d have to have a few more treatments.
Comparing all the treatments I had, this is how I would rank them in order of noticeable results.
3. Derma Pen
Don’t let the Derma Pen ranking fool you. It really does produce results and with almost no downtime. Derma Pen is especially useful if you had scaring you wanted to reduce.
